Air moisture: the right percentage is decisive
Moist air is perceived as warmer and reduces the stirring up of annoying dust. While plants and air humidifier make it more comfortable, bathroom and kitchen vapours must be pulled out of the rooms very quickly.
Windows: the candle’s test
Have you ever tested your windows for air leaks? Seal window gaps and joints until a lit candle does not flicker anymore. Close your shutters and curtains during the day especially in the hot summer season, it saves a few cents.
Dusty filter
A dusty filter reduces air flow. Examine your unit's air filters once a month and clean or replace filters when necessary. Keeping your filters clean can cut energy consumption
by 5 to 15%.
Choosing the right temperature
Do not set the thermostat lower than the desired temperature when you first turn it on. It will not cool faster; it will only cool to a lower temperature than necessary
and waste energy.
Cleaned coils move economically
Always clean coils as they can become clogged with dust.
Individual regulation of room temperature
Set the timer in the programmable thermostat when leave home to run at less cooling. You can set the timer in a manner that the unit runs at your temperature of comfort half hour before you return. This should be enough time to cool your home.
Remove heat-producing apliances near the thermostat
Do not position heat-producing appliances, such as televisions or lamps, near the thermostat. The heat they produce "fools" the thermostat and causes the unit to run longer than necessary.
Water: less is more
Less water, especially warm water protects the wallet. The expensive hot water can be reduced through water saving fittings, flushing tanks, domestic appliances, fully closed water taps and showers instead of bath tubs.
